Job Summary

 

As a Product Engineer you are responsible for the existing and future products within your domain. Therefore, you will analyse both your own products and the products of the competitors with the aim of both formulating, elaborating and testing product improvements as well as guaranteeing the properties in relation to internal and external (including ISO) standards. In addition, you play a coordinating role in the Change Control of existing products, development, implementation and validation of new products and create and/or compile related documents.

“I started as product engineer in Terumo Europe 13 years ago. At that moment, I had no experience in the medical device industry.
Terumo provided me good guidance and training (on the job and external) to increase my knowledge and understanding and gradually I moved into an expert role.
During those past 13 years, I had never a boring moment as the job comes with a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities and allows you to cooperate with many people of different departments from production, to quality, purchase, sales, regulatory affairs, etc …

A product engineer is responsible to make sure the medical devices under your responsibility are conform all internal and external requirements during the complete lifecycle of the devices, from the start of the development to end of life. You organize design and development processes for medical devices under development and incorporate changes to existing products. This means you have a coordinating role and work together with different departments to accomplish your goal. You will make sure all is documented in a clear an structured manner and defend your work during external audits.
This wide variety of tasks and cooperation with many people, kept me interesting in this job up to today.”

 

Job Responsibilities

 

As our Product Engineer, you will initiate the modification sheet to handle Change Control projects and play a primary role in coordinating actions with various departments (business unit, Production, Regulatory Affairs, Process Validation, Quality, ...) and properly document everything. In addition, you introduce and support in consultation with various departments and through the analysis of product performance parameters, new products, process adjustments or product improvements, in line with internal and external standards. 

 

You carry out technical research, look for a solution and follow up on problems that can occur in the various operating areas (Production, customers, Suppliers) and this for the products belonging to your domain.  

 

By fulfilling your role, you will develop Risk Impact Analyses and product validation protocols and take care of their practical implementation. This considers for example market demands and external requirements (ISO, FDA…). Additionally, you will report the results in the product validation report and maintain the risk management files. 

 

You provide support towards the marketing manager (BU) and Plant Management by providing project information, research results, and competition research for the products belonging to your domain. You will be a SPOC for the business unit, concerning technical questions from customers, review of product datasheets, drawing up product specifications for customers, ....

 

You coordinate the research into the technical feasibility of new products at the request of the market. You may be in the coordination of problem analysis, improvement projects, introduction projects, in which you supervise the work and also conduct your own tasks. As Product engineer you are responsible for respecting the timing, the budget, as well as the safety and quality regulations that have been set. You will also ensure a good communication towards project owners, internal customers and the Plant management. 

 

You are responsible for organizing and maintaining a documentation system in relation to the above activities and this in line with the quality standards and systems of Terumo Europe.

 

You provide support during internal and external (customers, notified body, …) audits to explain and defend the procedures and documentation related to the topics above.

Profiel kandidaat

Profile Description
 

You are in possession of a Master's degree in an engineering or a scientific field (e.g. biomedical, bio-engineering, biochemistry, life sciences, civil engineering...).

 

You can look back on a first working experience in a similar position such as Design Engineer, Development Engineer or Product Engineer within the medical device industry.

 

Being knowledgeable in plastic or injection moulding will be regarded as an asset.

You have knowledge of quality management system in medical device industry (ISO13485, MDR). 

 

You are fluent in English. This entails both the verbal and written skills. Proficiency in Dutch is a bonus.

 

You are communicatively strong, stress resistant and accurate. In addition, you possess good project management skills.
